Troupe History

Bolton Red Rose Majorettes was created in 2003 by Rachael Bailey (Troupe Leader).

The aim of the troupe was to enter competitions and test the members talents against other troupes from around the country.

After an invitation from Sharon Ellis (Principal, Yorkshire Carnival Association) Rachael, David Bailey & Katie Jackson attended the Universal Majorette Championships 2002 held in Bridlington. They were amazed with the standard of dancing and the twirling ability of other troupes. Rachael had seen enough to decide that this was the standard to aim for and began the task of developing her troupe to competition standard.

The first year in competition was tough but the troupe pulled together and raised their standards to the required level. In the Universal Majorette Championships 2003 the Dinky team won 1st place gaining the title of Universal Majorette Champions 2003 after a dramatic dance off with the Yorkshire Supremes.

Since then the standards continue to rise year after year and Bolton Red Rose continue to compete at the excellent standards set by the YCA and their member troupes.

In 2005 Bolton Red Rose Majorettes obtained sponsorship from Warburton's Bakery (Bolton) which provided the troupe with their travelling colours in the form of tracksuits. The majorettes were able to "step out in style" and a big thank you is due from the troupe to our favourite bread makers!

In 2007 we held the first ever Majorette competition in Bolton at Bolton School and we also won the "Most improved troupe of the year" with the Yorkshire Carnival Association.

So that's the history of the troupe, one thing sure... there is lots more to come from this troupe!!!
